Nightcrawler - Texturing Project

NIGHTCRAWLER
Concept Art by Randy Bishop
3D model, Cut/Key, and 3D Printed by Ernesto Arrieta
Textured by Connor Bushoven
Programs used:
Zbrush for retopo, Substance Painter, Photoshop, Marmoset Toolbag 4

This project was an exercise in texturing, with the intention of learning Marmoset Toolbag and demonstrating two different approaches to surfacing the model. I created a base texture and tweaked the roughness/normal maps to make the character look like a vinyl toy and more lifelike, and lit/rendered the result in Toolbag. Overall I'm happy with the result and am excited to keep working in Toolbag in the future!

This version of the project interpreted the model and base as a small vinyl figure, and aimed for a realistic interpretation of painted plastic.

This version of the project aimed a bit more for a sort of stylized realism, with normal map details applied to the skin, clothing, and hair to make the character look a bit more lifelike.
